The round number as proof
He presents his programme in clean numbers: 200 billion, 65, residence permits “divided by eight”, carried by the image of the managing mayor. Our reading: a round number sounds like a costed decision, even when the detail is missing.
Put bluntly. The trap is neatness: “divide by eight” and “200 billion” look like plans. Without the list of what goes, they are slogans in numbers.
The question to check. Ask which residence permits (work, study, family) would be cut, and which spending makes up the €200 billion a year.
