Appstention 2027 numbers, in real time and without estimates. All data is publicly accessible to ensure transparency: no inflated counter, no personal data published.

Core principle: This site is not a campaign to abstain. It documents declarations from people who have already made that choice. The numbers reflect only validated declarations, without outreach or active promotion.

Overview

The statistics below are updated in real time and reflect the current state of the project. No number is pre-filled, inflated or estimated. The counter starts at zero and increases only at the rate of email validations.

Validated declarations

Total number of abstention declarations validated by email. One declaration per email address. This number represents the core of the project.

Goal and current milestone

Goal: one million validated declarations by April 2027. Milestones (100, 1000, 10000, etc.) trigger the publication of public reports.

Supporters

Number of people who supported the initiative without declaring their abstention. This gesture is open to everyone, including those who vote.

Distribution of abstention reasons checked in validated declarations. One declaration can check multiple reasons:

  • No candidate represents me
  • Voting changes nothing
  • Distrust of institutions
  • I do not consent to validating the system as it is

Access to raw data

All of the above statistics are accessible in real time via the public API. The data is returned in JSON format, with no authentication required.

GET /api/abstention2027/stats

Public JSON endpoint returning real-time statistics:

  • declarations_validees — number of validated declarations
  • palier — next milestone to reach (100, 1000, etc.)
  • objectif — final goal (1 million)
  • soutiens — number of registered supporters
  • par_motif — detailed breakdown by abstention reason
  • temoignages_publies — number of published testimonials
  • idees_publiees — number of published ideas

Usage: This data can be used by journalists, researchers and citizens to analyze the movement. No outreach, no personal data.

Counting methodology and limitations

How declarations are validated

Each declaration is validated by email in three steps:

  1. A person fills out the form on the declaration page
  2. They receive a confirmation email with a unique link
  3. They click on the link to validate — one declaration per email address

The email address remains stored privately to audit validations, prevent duplicates and process deletion requests. It is never published or publicly linked to the testimonial.

Acknowledged limitations

An email address is not a person. This is the main limitation of the current method, and it is publicly acknowledged:

  • A person can create multiple email addresses
  • A person may not have an email address
  • The method does not verify registration on electoral rolls

Stronger verification (by phone number, number not stored in clear text) is planned with volume. We prefer a small, true number to a large, unverifiable one.

What we do not do

  • No active outreach — this site does not campaign for abstention
  • No inflated numbers — no pre-filled counter, no added estimates
  • No personal data published — neither email nor IP address stored
  • No publication on data.gouv.fr — personal data (emails) cannot be made public, even anonymized. Only aggregated statistics (without any personal data) are accessible via the JSON API.

Transparency and auditability

Appstention 2027 takes a single position: people who have chosen to abstain deserve to be heard with their reasons rather than ignored as a block. To guarantee this mission, several transparency mechanisms are in place:

Real-time public numbers

Statistics are publicly accessible in JSON, without authentication. Anyone can check the numbers at any time.

Testimonials published verbatim

Testimonials are published as-is, without reformulation. Only illegal or off-topic content is removed.

RSS feed of publications

All published testimonials and ideas are accessible via RSS feed, with timestamps.

Honesty charter

The project is governed by a public charter that sets the rules for moderation, transparency and respect for testimonials.
