About Appstention 2027

Appstention 2027 is an independent citizen project that gives France's non-voters for the 2027 presidential election a public voice. No party, no candidate, no funding collected. One citizen working alone, a transparent method, one goal: make abstention audible with its reasons.

What this site does

Nearly 13 million French voters stayed home in the first round of 2022 — more than any candidate received. Not one of their reasons was ever recorded anywhere. Appstention 2027 records declarations of abstention for 2027, one per validated email address, with the reasons and, if the person wishes, their testimony published as written.

This site is a megaphone for people who have already chosen not to vote. It campaigns for nothing, backs nobody, and collects no donations. It takes exactly one position: that decision deserves to be heard with its reasons rather than dismissed as a bloc.

How it works

  1. Declaration: Someone ticks their reasons and, if they want, writes why. The testimony is optional.
  2. Email validation: One declaration per address. The email is stored privately to audit validations, prevent duplicates and handle deletion requests. It is never published or publicly linked to the testimony.
  3. Publication: The declaration enters the counter and the breakdown of reasons. The testimony, if there is one, is published anonymously after moderation (only illegal or off-topic content is removed), quoted verbatim in the reports.

The counter shows the real total of email-validated declarations and nothing else. The raw figures are public as JSON and the publications as an RSS feed, verifiable by anyone.

Who is behind this site

An independent citizen: no party, no funding, no candidate to promote. The site is in alpha, built and paid for alone. The technical infrastructure relies on Cloudflare, PostgreSQL and Node.js; data is hosted in Europe.

There is no company, no registered association, no company registration number: this is not a commercial structure. A full legal notice will accompany the public launch planned for January 2027.

What this site is not

Editorial line: a megaphone for people who already abstain — never a campaign to push abstention. Civic, not partisan.

Data policy

Declarations: Declarations are validated by email; the address remains stored privately for auditing, duplicate prevention and deletion requests, but is never published. Testimonies and ideas are published anonymously after moderation; no IP address is kept.

Public reports: Report subscription emails are stored separately, with double opt-in, and deleted on request at any time. No automatic newsletter, no data ever sold.

Analytics: We count visits with Google Analytics, which stores a cookie in your browser only if you accept it. You can decline: the site works exactly the same. Your declaration stays anonymous either way.

Method and charter

Every published synthesis will cite the raw testimonies it is drawn from. When the AI analysis arrives, its criteria and its limits will be published with it. When in doubt, we quote verbatim — never a rewording that betrays. The counter shows only email-validated declarations, one per address, and its limit is owned: an address is not a person.
