Turning familiarity into political trust

Editorial interpretation: everyday cultural references and conviviality make the candidate feel familiar. That familiarity can encourage a misleading leap: identifying with someone, then assuming they will necessarily defend your interests better.

Put bluntly. Likeability does not pay the rent. Enjoying the same meal or recognising an accent proves neither that a budget adds up nor that a promise will be kept.

The question to check. Examine the policies, their beneficiaries, their funding and the compromises they require. Familiarity matters in representation; it does not replace checking the programme.
