Making unity a moral obligation
Editorial interpretation: climate urgency and political risk underpin an appeal to collective responsibility. Presenting unity as the only legitimate option can make disagreements over policies or alliances look irresponsible.
Put bluntly. A vital cause can also become a pressure tactic. Fear of catastrophe gives no party a blank cheque, and the word unity settles no disagreement on its own.
The question to check. Check the shared programme, outstanding disagreements, selection process and each candidate’s withdrawal conditions. A unity campaign poster does not guarantee a government that can hold together.
